Almost got a free bike

2006-04-30 (Sunday)

For the last week or so, leaned on one of the fences down the street from my house was a yellow road bike, apparantly discarded by a neighbour. After some luck in not having it taken away by someone else, I finally had the chance to inspect it today for damages, especially to see if that bend I noticed in the right seat stay was due to design or damage.

Unfortunately for me, the latter was the case. And, upon closer inspection, I noticed a huge dent in the top tube, and that the whole frame was slightly warped.

It would seem that there will be no free bikes for me today.

Mmm… DS lite…

I love spring

2006-04-18 (Tuesday)

Since the weather was going to be nice today, I brought my bike to work so that I could ride afterwards. There was a quick run down Upper Gearjammer then Mel’s, after which I went home to drop off the extra weight from my back pack (riding with a change of shoes and shorts is annoying).

Having done that, headed to the dirt jump park at Pinetree Park. I still suck at jumping my bike, but it was good times.
I love spring.

The Quest for Unicode Compliance

2006-04-09 (Sunday)

One of the hidden annoyances of open source is that sometimes projects die. The software may be perfectly usable, rarely unstable, and widely used, but, sometimes, somewhere along the line, the maintainers simply dissapear, leaving hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of contributers hanging.

This is doubly annoying when said project has been the de facto library of its area for some time: id3lib.

This time, 日本語でブロッグしてみよう!

やっぱりAnthyってまだまだウィンドーズに含まれてるIMほど使い易くないな。

じゃ,今度は中国語で!

没什么好说的…

Okay, we now return to our regularily scheduled programming.

Dust begone!

2006-04-04 (Tuesday)

I took a can of compressed air to my laptop tonight, as it was about time I cleaned the dust out of the heat sink. It was quite surprising to see puffs of dust being ejected from every opening, not to mention amusing.

Now the CPU seems to be running about 2 to 3 degrees cooler idling, which hopefully translates to major heat reduction when it is under load. Hooray for super-compressed gas in a can!
