Blasted joints

Although I didn’t actually get a chance to ride a Norco Six during Saturday’s demo day, as rentals were in high-demand and I didn’t make it in time, I still managed to do three runs down the mountain. Although three is the usual number for me, this is despite spending much of the morning waiting around for a Ryan Leech show, waiting for people that were renting bikes, and waiting for repair on a rear brake that had to be bled and tuned.

My riding is now noticibly more aggressive and smooth, and Max even commented that he was surprised how well I’ve managed to keep up with the full-suspension folks. I’m still getting freaked out at certain obstacles, and have yet to attempt Nicole’s Pole, but some quality riding time after finals end should solve that.

All in all, Saturday was awesome.

On a not-so-awesome note, I think I’ve managed to screw up my right knee, and maybe even the left, but to a much lesser degree. I’ve always had minor and infrequent discomforts with my knees before, but it was never serious until I had managed to strain my right knee multiple times on Thursday while walking around campus putting up posters for the bike maintenance workshop. It’s not become a hiderance, yet, but walking for extensive periods of time is now out of the question, and I now have to keep conciously aware of how I’m walking as not to put any more uneeded strain on my right knee. Ironically, this forced change in walking habits seems to have impacted my left knee as well.

Sometime next week, when I have time, I’ll pay a visit to the free physiotherapy clinic at campus and get some informed advice on the matter. Hopefully it’s neither serious nor permanent.
