Eureka!

2005-10-12 (Wednesday)

Turns out setting the PPI setting in X properly does a great deal in improving the consistency of text sizes while browsing the IntarWeb. I should have taken the effort to do this when I first started tweaking xorg on my laptop.

goSFU is no longer a garbled mess of 3-pixel-high text, as well as a few other sites I visit.

Some websites, on the other hand, have began to display huge texts, much to my bewilderment.

This will likely change my attitude towards web design yet again…

The True Spirit of America

Topic: The Great American Novel

That is all.

Rain, rain, go away…

Cursed condensations!

After a week of mostly-okay weather, the meteorological gods decided to play bitch by causing Monday, the day that was supposed to be filled with mountain biking goodness, to be plagued by rain. And, to add insult to injury, follows up with relatively beautiful weather on Tuesday.

If the weather holds up, I will most likely play hooky and go riding Thursday. I’d do it on Friday, too, but that is currently reserved for a MEC trip to aquire a headlight for night riding.

The forecast, however, doesn’t seem to be in my favour. Blast it all!

This is my current desktop image:
Cute little sleeping kitty

Everytime I switch desktops, I get flashed by said image.

I fear that the cuteness may eventually get to me…

On communicating effectively…

2005-10-06 (Thursday)

So, turns out the late charge is due to the decreased total credit hours when I dropped the courses. It was entirely my fault that I’ve neglected to remember such a charge.

That being said, since it’s a charge that only applies between Aug. 6th and Sept. 12, why is it not added then? Why add it after the tuition deadline when students have supposedly already paid their tuition and have no reason to look at their tuition charges again for at least another semester?

See, what we have here is a failure to communicate effectively. Or, rather, an utter failure at applying good usability principals.

Yet another drop in the goSFU-fucking-sucks bucket…

Aren’t I paying enough already?!

2005-10-06 (Thursday)

Apparently the university is charging me a $100 [Under Grad] Tuition Drop Penalty.

Why, yes, I did drop a few courses due to having my coop term extended. And, if I recall correctly, I dropped them before the deadline, at least a week before the semester even started.

The records also show that I paid my tuition before the mysterious charge was added, which was also before the deadline, since I wanted a shot at the prize draw. Even more aggrevating, the extra charge shows up on record for Sept 20th, two days AFTER the claimed due date before they start charging for late fees. Fuckers.

This means I will have to go to school early tomorrow to get it sorted out before unicycling. This geek is not happy.

Rain be damned

2005-10-05 (Wednesday)

Instead of the usual wasting time doing work in the common room, I opted to delay the noon-ish commute to eliminate the need to carry my laptop up the hill and take the oppertunity to do a run down the hill instead.

The wetness wasn’t too much of an issue. In fact, there were some sections of the trails that wasn’t darkened by moisture at all. The fallen leaves, on the otherhand, was tricky, to say the least. Tires are made to grip, even wet leaves. Wet leaves, on the other hand, doesn’t like gripping on to other wet things. Only had a minor spill and a few stalls, but, damn, talk about confidence ruiners.

On the up side, I love flex hours. Yay for the pubic sector!

*poke poke*

After some hacking to the source code, looks like WordPress is finally running properly.

’bout bloody time!

More to come soon. Meaning, of course, whenever the hell I get around to it.
